This role focuses on Anthology's LMS, Blackboard, a product in which we pride ourselves on creating well-designed web and mobile solutions to support learners, instructors, and administrators. Blackboard allows learners and instructors to access online educational experiences wherever and whenever they want through web and mobile devices. Our technology helps instructors breathe life into educational content, bring efficiency to day-to-day tasks, and empowers instructors with tools to engage and assess every learner. We help motivate learners by promoting collaboration, communication, and connections with their peers and instructors.
 
As a member of our Product Development team, you’ll work in an agile environment delivering industry-leading SaaS products and web service platforms. You’ll be right in the trenches translating wireframes and sketches into working prototypes to refine interface behaviors. 
 
As Senior Full Stack Software Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining both back-end REST Services using Java as well as front-end libraries and frameworks using JavaScript.

 

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in user-centered research through client focus groups, interviews, usage analysis, and rapid prototyping 
  • Profiling and optimizing code to get the best performance for browsers and operating systems 
  • Working closely with designers and other developers in a tightly knit agile team
  • Leading and encouraging superior development practices including design reviews, code reviews, and peer mentoring
  • Keeping your ear to the ground and helping us incorporate industry best practices and important developments into our products

 


The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • 5-8+ years of experience developing cross-browser-compatible web applications in HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Experience developing web applications with Java and Spring
  • Some experience creating and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Proficiency with modern front-end JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery, AngularJS, React, and Redux
  • A deep understanding of modern CSS frameworks such as SASS and LESS
  • Knowledgeable in Agile development, preferably Scrum
  • Experience integrating with and utilizing third party API providers and cloud services
  • Some experience with Object-Oriented Analysis, design, and programming
  • Knowledgeable about UI/UX best practices
  • Experienced using and talking about common Design Patterns
  • A passion for high-quality, maintainable code
  • A strong understanding of refactoring and continuous improvement
  • A comfort developing on Linux and Unix environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to excel at working with multidisciplinary teams to develop great user experiences
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

 

Preferred skills/qualifications:

  • Experience creating services for Node.JS 
  • Experience building and packaging web applications 
  • Experience with scripting languages
